SWEENEY TODD

Nothing did more to expose the genius of this Stephen Sondheim musical than the recent Tim Burton film. This stage version though is the more musical/less violent telling of the same story of a barber returning to London seeking revenge on those who wronged him. In fact, the impressiveness of this Sweeney doesn’t end with the remarkable lyrics and music that solidified Sondheim as an indisputable Broadway legend. No, the genius of this version is that, throughout the entire performance, the actors onstage are not only singing Sondheim’s tongue-twisting lyrics, but they are also playing his intricate music on various instruments. And unlike the film, this version includes all of Sondheim’s original Sweeney songs like, “Ah, Miss” and “Kiss Me,” as well as favorites like “Johanna,” “Pretty Women,” “A Little Priest” and “Not While I’m Around.”
Due to subject matter, this production is not suitable for young audiences.
